What did we learn at CA World 2017?

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but we’re about to break that rule for a good reason. We attended CA World 2017, one of the biggest technology events in the world, held from November 13 to 17 in Las Vegas.

We definitely didn’t learn how to win at slot machines, and we certainly didn’t manage to count cards to make a little money at blackjack. But we did gather a lot of learnings from people who not only drive incredible innovations around the world, but also shared great tips for anyone who wants to stay relevant without relying on luck.

People like Mike Gregoire (CEO), Otto Berkes (CTO), and Ayman Sayed (CPO)—all from CA, the technology company behind the event, valued at over 4 billion dollars—shared knowledge there.

Before we start talking about everything we learned, we want to say that if you like technology, app development, and the future, it’s a good idea to reserve your spot for CA World 2018, which will take place in Miami.

And since we also enjoy a good beach, there’s a good chance we’ll see you there! 😉

The main technology trends we took from CA World 2017

At CA World 2017, we learned that the items on this list need to be part of your app development process if you want your products to compete in the market. Below are the main trends for each item for the coming years.

Test automation

Digital projects need to be tested, and if they can’t be done manually, this step can be fully automated. New tools are arriving on the market that enable a higher number of tests—from MVPs to updates of already consolidated products—and using them means greater efficiency in the validation process.

Continuous integration

It’s no longer possible to launch good apps without investing in continuous integration, a development practice where code changes are merged into a central repository. This makes it easier to track information and run tests, whether during creation or release.

At CA World 2017, we learned that this approach is one of the key ways software can achieve higher quality, because bugs can be investigated quickly by anyone on the project.

Agile (agile methodologies)

Likewise, CA World 2017 showed us that we at X-Apps are on the right track to build strong cases and deliver better results by using agile methodologies during the process.

An Agile culture means better organization across development stages and teams, meeting deadlines, respecting budgets, and delivering a final product with more added value for the client.

DevOps

Everyone should keep an eye on DevOps, because this model can be a key to success. DevOps is, basically, the combination of philosophies and cultures around developing new technologies with tools that allow a company to distribute applications with high quality and scalability.

Speed is central to DevOps, because it integrates development teams and promotes an environment with more information and idea sharing—and, consequently, fewer errors or scope problems.

DevSecOps

At CA World 2017, we also saw that DevSecOps is a trend to watch from now on—especially in a world where new apps appear every second and deal with critical end‑customer data, such as banking passwords, home addresses, and financial information.

DevSecOps works similarly to DevOps, but focuses primarily on security issues during app development. In the age of fintechs, this truly promises to be a strong trend.

Did you like our list of learnings from CA World 2017? We hope to see you at the 2018 edition—and until then, we’re available to help you develop an effective application that fits your end customer’s needs.
