The event

Agribusiness has been one of the main drivers of the Brazilian economy, growing 23.5% in the last 13 years. To keep that growth rhythm, it’s important to understand the positive technological advances that have been accelerating the market. That’s why, on June 24, we attended another event—Agrotech Conference—dedicated to the agribusiness market.

Agrotech Conference is an event for professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, farmers, and agribusiness investors—an opportunity to revolutionize this segment.

The agricultural sector has taken a prominent place in the economic debate, shaping discussions in Brazil with significant numbers. At the event, different solutions for the livestock sector were presented. With so many technological advances, could agribusiness identify new ways to reinvent itself?

The new agribusiness landscape

At the event, a startup specialized in agricultural spraying presented a results-delivery method to control pests and diseases in crops—performed by drones in places where vehicles can’t go. Created through their own research and development, the solution identifies pests with drones, delivers photo reports to the farmer, and uses a chemical aircraft to cover the infested area, spraying it to eliminate the pests.

This procedure’s flight takes about 30 minutes, doesn’t compromise the soil, and removes rural workers’ contact with harmful chemicals. In addition, the entire operation is powered by renewable energy, reducing the need for artificial processes and contributing to the environment.

To make farm work easier, new methods for weighing cattle were also developed. The project’s main goal is to minimize herd stress, avoid weight loss on the way to the scale, and simplify farmers’ work. By fixing a camera to the ground and configuring the weighing method, the system is activated and stores more than a thousand photos, sending weight reports to the farm owner.

Sustainability in agribusiness

On stage, startups presented alternatives to the “traditional” way of producing meat. Beyond plant-based meats, we learned about new meats developed in laboratories. With the aim of promoting more sustainable consumption, animal-origin cells are cultivated to produce “meat”. The cells are prepared using tissue engineering to create the meat’s texture and appearance.

In a similar sustainable model—supporting the environment and addressing the scarcity of natural resources—companies are creating lab methods that feed cells with salts, sugars, and proteins. The solution is transformed into a fish paste that can be formed into fish fillets. The main goal is to evolve this technology and produce foods such as sushi and sashimi, which are part of consumers’ everyday reality.

Overall, Agrotech Conference proposes changes for the agribusiness sector based on technological advances. New technologies will simplify work in the field, make farms’ day-to-day more productive, and add sustainability benefits. Sustainable agribusiness uses natural resources while respecting the environment we live in, contributing to environmental preservation.
